Diagnostic Decision Support

Research Paper Instructions:

I am given an article about DDS. I researched arguments against the use of DDS and did a presentation on it. Please use slides 18, 19, and 20 that are about additional disadvantages. I want you to write a one page paper that elaborates the disadvantages I mentioned in the slides. The work will be added to a larger group paper so a front page is not needed.
Please cite where needed to back up your points. Some references are at the end of the presentation.
I have attached the paper, the presentation, and some previous work I had researched regarding disadvatages (you may use)

DIAGNOSTIC DECISION SUPPORT: Arguments against Diagnostic Decision Support

The clinical decision support systems (DSS) are beneficial in the clinical environment as they generate patient information in to providing advice based on the patients specific prompts (Thomas et al., 2004). In order to make informed decisions, users need to be well conversant with the DSS. However, they may lack the technical skills and knowledge and this is a challenge to the successful implementation of CDSS. This includes the lack of adequate training, clinical knowledge and computer skills. The DSS is also necessary since it provides the right information at the right time, but not all users are likely to rely on the information.
Despite the potential benefits of DSS, implementing the system can be time-consuming whereby the benefits are expected later on. Additionally, during the implementation phase, the DSS is likely to disrupt patient care, showing that the benefits do not accrue immediately. This is especially when there are concerns on the integration of DSS, where there is a need to decide whether the systems are to be stand alone or fully integrated into the existing system. Integration of the DSS is potentially burdensome since the healthcare information is complex more than ever before whereby errors have far reaching consequences that highlight the challenges of healthcare information systems (Hesse & Shneiderman, 2007).
The health information systems have mostly been used in the decision-making process while dealing with modern treatments, and the DDS may have no effect on the clinical outcome. According to Thomas et al (2004), there is a need to have computerized guidelines while managing patient mental disorders, with the information generated being specific to the patients needs.
