Bioequivalent medications are pharmaceutical commodities that contain similar active ingredients in the exact amounts, dosage forms, and routes of administration. They are considered identical to the reference drug in terms of safety, efficacy, and bioavailability (Gozzo et al., 2022). On the other hand, biosimilar medications are similar biological products but not identical to an existing, approved natural drug. These drugs are certified by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat the same condition as the original biologic drug. However, they have different active ingredients, manufacturing processes, or delivery systems, which may result in differences in efficacy or safety (Kleppin, 2020). Biosimilars are approved based on data demonstrating that they are the same as an existing biologic drug, with no clinically sensible differences in effectiveness and safety.
