Banner Health’s Organizational Readiness
The healthcare needs of Americans are expected to change significantly in the next decade. According to Osborn et al. (2017), the United States (US) and other high-income countries are dealing with the challenge of providing care to an aging population due to high life expectancy. As more Americans continue to experience high life expectancy, the aging population will continue increasing. This aging population will continue to have many healthcare needs, and healthcare organizations need to be ready to meet these needs. This paper examines the readiness of Banner Health to meet the future healthcare needs of Americans. It also provides a strategic plan to help the organization improve network growth, nurse staffing, resources management, and patient satisfaction. Finally, the paper explores current issues relating to Banner Health's organizational culture and proposes a theory/model for implementing the strategic plan.
Brief Description
Banner Health is one of the largest healthcare networks in the US, spanning Arizona, California, Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Nevada (Banner Health, 2021). It is headquartered in Arizona and has 30 acute-care hospitals and other healthcare entities such as clinics and health centers. It is the largest private employer in Arizona, with over 50 000 employees overall. In addition, it offers community benefits in the form of charity care, research activities, unpaid cost of Medicare and the uninsured, and education for healthcare professionals. Primarily, Banner Health offers hospice and home care services, physician services, and other comprehensive services. It also provides specialized services to Alzheimer's, Cancer, Heart, and Concussion in various Banner healthcare entities. Banner's mission is "making health care easier, so life can be better (Banner Health, 2021)." The network aims to achieve its mission through its service delivery, a significantly extensive network of healthcare entities, and charity/community benefit programs.
Overall Readiness
As stated earlier, the American population will be characterized by an even high number of aging people in the next decade. This means that the healthcare needs of Americans will change to match the changes in the population. One of the most significant healthcare needs will be managing chronic diseases (Osborn et al., 2017). More Americans will require long-term care and home care. Banner Health has made considerable efforts to include home care services as part of its network. For instance, in 2017, it acquired SunLife Medicare-certified home health services to provide home care to the elderly in Tucson (University of Arizona Health Sciences, 2017). Banner also has several long-term care centers in its regions of operations. In addition, the network provides a series of specialized care in areas such as Alzheimer's and heart disease, both of which are more common in the elderly. Thus, it is safe to conclude that Banner is prepared to deal with an aging population that will require a lot of long-term and home care.
