Clinical systems facilitate the delivery of healthcare services to enhance health outcomes. Applying clinical systems creates significant improvements in both workflow and patient care. Clinical information systems were chosen as the focus of this report due to their capacity to facilitate more patient-centered and evidence-based care delivery. It has outstanding potential to reduce medical errors, cut unnecessary costs, increase legibility, and boost healthcare quality. The primary role of clinical information systems is to capture, keep, process, and timely transfer healthcare information to clinical decision-makers for rapid and correct decisions. The report is a critical analysis of peer-reviewed articles on applying clinical information systems to enhance efficiencies and outcomes in healthcare.

According to Bjarnadottir et al. (2017), the implementation of electronic health records (EHR) is significantly linked to performance improvements in various quality indicators within nursing homes. The article's efficacy relates to a significant decrease in the percentage of residents who recorded weight loss indicating improvements in their capacity to document and track their nutritional status, thus reducing the malnutrition risk. It was noted that the percentage of patients with urinary tract infections (UTIs) and indwelling catheters decreased, indicating improvements in the documentation that led to a better overview of the individuals with indwelling catheters and a heightened risk of developing UTIs. For instance, nurses could adjust care plans according to the findings, thus efficiently reducing health risks. Overall, the results supported the assertion that EHRs implementation and incorporating such resources into the nursing homes' care structure positively influence quality indicators of care (Bjarnadottir et al., 2017). The quality improvements outcomes are driven by improvement in care processes such as risk assessments, documentation, reporting, and medical decision support.
The lessons learned in this appraisal are that EHRs improve documentation, thus enhancing the completeness and accuracy of patients' data. Further, EHRs facilitate accurate patient risk evaluations and quality appraisal, enabling more instant intervention as required. In addition, EHRs include resources that support clinical decision-making, healthcare information sharing, and care coordination. There is promising evidence of the potential benefits of EHRs application in healthcare. The government needs to make significant investments to implement clinical information systems in diverse healthcare settings.
