Overview
To begin this assignment, you will identify three scholarly articles on a particular topic relevant to the content of Brain Target 1-4 of "The Brain-Targeted Teaching Model". Examples include memory, attention, emotion, creativity, self-regulation, arts integration, etc. You will summarize each article, provide implications for educational practice, and explain why each article falls into one of three categories of a scholarly article (empirical research, meta-analysis/literature review, or explanation of educational practice or policy). Below are definitions of each type of article:

Empirical Study
An empirical research article reports the findings from an original research study and it is authored by the researchers who conducted the original research. These articles may use quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods approaches to study the research questions.
Literature Review or Meta-Analysis
A literature review article summarizes the findings of many empirical articles on a related topic. These articles provide a summary and synthesis of the findings in order to move the research conversations forward in a particular field. The articles may identify gaps in the research and pose potential new directions for exploration. A meta-analysis is similar to a literature review in that it utilizes the findings from empirical studies of the same constructs or topics. However, a meta-analysis uses statistical analyses to examine all of the data from the selected studies to either increase the statistical power and potentially the generalizability of the previous studies.
Explanation of Educational Practice or Policy
An article that provides an explanation of educational practice or policy takes the findings from research and explains the purpose and the implications for practice. These articles attempt to bridge the divide between researchers and practitioners in order to inform practitioners of important developments and innovations in research.
Directions:
1. Select a topic for research within one of the areas suggested above.
• Begin searching for related articles of each type on your chosen topic.
• Be sure that you have a good understanding of the three different categories of scholarly articles: empirical research, metaanalysis/literature review, and explanation of educational practice or policy. Select one article related to your topic from each category.
2. Write no more than a two-page review for each article. Each review should include the following:
• An explanation of why the article falls into one of three categories of a scholarly article (empirical research, meta-analysis/literature review, and explanation of educational practice or policy)
• A brief summary of the article
• Implications for educational practice
3. Details
• Begin each review with the article citation using APA style. This citation should be singlespaced.
• The body of your review should be between 300 and 400 words, double spaced.
• In the first paragraph identify type of article (empirical, literature
review/meta-analysis, or explanation of practice or policy) and explain why you decided to put the article in this category.
• In the second paragraph write a summary of the article. Identify the author(s) main ideas (explanation of practice or policy), what were the most important findings or conclusions (literature review/meta analysis), or what was the researcher’s main question and results (empirical research).
• In the last paragraph succinctly suggest how these ideas might be applied to education or a related field.
• Combine your three reviews into one document.

This paper will focus on three scholarly articles dealing with the concept of ‘The Brain Targeted Teaching Model.’ It will identify the type of academic article, i.e., literature review, meta-analysis, empirical research, or education policy, and provide a summary of the article and its implications on educational practice. The Brain Targeted Teaching Model revolves around teaching that focuses on memory, emotion, attention, self-regulation, creativity, and arts integration. The authors deploy a systematic approach to combine different research studies in one design.
The article, Neuroethics, neuroeducation, and classroom teaching: Where the brain sciences meet pedagogy, is authored by Hardiman, Rinne, Gregory & Yarmolinskaya (2012). Recent advances in neuroimaging techniques like magnetic encephalography and structural magnetic resonance imaging allow for the non-invasively observing brain activity during the performance of various cognitive tasks. Work in neuroscience has corroborated several behavioral studies’ findings that previously could not be explained mechanistically, including shedding light on how regulation of attention affects memory networks and how concentration can be improved through deliberate training.
