Research Proposal Abstract
An algorithm refers to a specific sequence of procedures that help deal with a problem. An algorithm is neutral and objective when used in research. Despite many scholars' acceptance that algorithms are not neutral, researchers need to be unbiased and accurate. Biased researchers emphasize the intended outcome they expect to arrive at, eroding the values and principles of research. It is due to this reason that an algorithm, when used in a study, should be neutral and objective to avoid influencing an outcome. It is possible to achieve this by having correct data and a good motive when designing an algorithm. Most judicial systems adopt automated judgment in determining punishment for offenders (Turner-Lee et al., 2019). The sentence may include the incarceration period or fines imposed.
Turner-Lee et al. (2019) identify that machines can evaluate various situations and people distinctly. Such an analysis could be biased since individuals could get unfair punishment based on the diversity of data used by the algorithms to determine the sentences. Such an approach would not apply in a different range of examples due to the bias identified above.
