I am pleased to attach the career research proposal for the term project.
In line with the growing number of journalists all over the world, this research proposal would be focused on understanding the complexities of looking for a job and establishing a thriving career in the field of Data journalism. The major research questions proposed below aims to understand the demand, advantages, roles and even difficulties for data journalist these days. Emerging patterns in the said field would be discussed in the latter sections of this proposal.
Introduction
It is no doubt that journalism belongs to one of the fastest-growing fields these days. Due to the advent of different forms of technology for publication, techniques in conveying information, as well as the demands for expertise in every topic possible, different careers in journalism has emerged in the recent decade. In line with this, I believe that this evolution in the field presents as an excellent opportunity for research. Specifically, some of the questions that would be posted in the latter sections would include (1) the different platforms for journalism, and (2) different careers for journalists.
While aiming to have a clearer understanding of the different careers that I could pursue, my priority choice is that of the field of Data Journalism. By definition, Data Journalism is a kind of journalism that seeks to find trends and patterns from statistical data, through the use of a variety of skill set such as “investigative research, statistics, design, and programming” (Bradshaw, 2010). It is through the heavy use of numerical data that makes Data Journalism one of the most objective and challenging fields these days.
