I am inclined to agree with Sharon Zukin’s ideas and elucidations of London and New York cities as major global financial capitals. In her article, The City as a Landscape of Power: London and New York as Global Financial Capitals, Zukin presents her outlook or take on how large cities in the world seek to outdo each other in the competition for attention and recognition as global financial centers. Every city in the world today appears to have shifted towards private development and this has happened with the support of central governments. Zukin notes that the competition is simply to help these cities “capture global markets in a single space” (84). Well, with this mindset in mind, cities are thus investing in what would set them apart from the others and further help them gain competitive advantage.
