In Chapter I of The International Style by Henry-Russell Hitchcock and Philip Johnson, the idea of style is depicted as an inclusive one, not one that is individualistic and contradictory. Attempts have existed before to re-invent older architectural forms or styles. The modern architecture draws its lessons from the further past. The concept of the Gothic style, one in which the idea of space and solidarity is upheld, can be re-imposed in modern architecture through the use of modern materials like metals and concrete reinforced with metal bars.
