The development of postmodernism theory came in the late 1980s. The field of architecture is said to have led to the development of the modern and or modernist ideologies or school of thought. The architectural designs starting taking new forms and most of the developed buildings depicted a change in the way of thinking and representation of the ideas possessed by the very architects. Hotels, for instance, played a role in the determination of the differences in the way architects could use their power of representation of ideas. Any form of thinking always has its center of origin. For postmodernism theory, it is believed that its place of origin is Los Angeles. Postmodern theory as a school of thought, however, is against metanarratives. The theory tends to explain ideologies and or simplify ways of reasoning as opposed to the multitude of ideas presented in most of the world's renowned ideologies in religion and other disciplines.
In addition, postmodern theory also critiques foundation and essence of particular aspects of the society. It tends to disagree with essentialism which have it that certain elements must exist for a particular item or occasion to exist. On the other hand, postmodern theory is concerned with how items and or knowledge of the world are represented. The representation of concern always come with the pictures, maps, equations, words and all the other forms of representation of ideas. Postmodern theory also presents the geography of difference. Postmodernism as way of thinking managed to reintroduce the idea of space in social theory back to make geography a center of discussion in most of the conferences. It also re-emphasized on the encounter with place, region and locality in the definition of the geography of a place.
