Discussion Forum for a Social Work Class The article “Mapping margins” by Kimberle Crenshaw stood out among all other resources encountered because of the unique way that it articulates controversial and predominantly sensitive issues about women of color in the United States (Crenshaw, 1991). The author takes a bold step to confront the complex and sophisticated interactions between gender and race that have consistently disadvantaged women of color in the nation. Her exploration of the diverse issues and how they manifest, leading to minimalization, disregard, and outright disregard of the plight of African American women in the U.S., is commendable. She applies progressive concepts and arguments to improve readers’ understanding and awareness of intersectionality and dynamics. Unearthing social issues facing women of color that have remained obscured by diversified perspectives emerges as a significant strength in this article. She achieves this objective by applying the concept of intersectionality to express fundamental thoughts about the continued disappointments faced by this group due to the failure of feminist activism and antiracism’s non-holistic approach to their issues in society.
