The note from the underground is a novel that was written by Dostoyevsky. The story mainly talks about egoism or the theme of being self-centered. The writer of the story expresses the topics by using the man from the underground who showed his sense of self in his weakest point and also in his greatest strength.
In the novel, Dostoevsky places the blame for the protagonist on the narrator himself because we see where the narrator says that, in the first place, he would blame himself because he is clever that everybody else (Dostoevsky, 1999). According to the underground man, freedom prevents him from being happy because he says; people have exchanged all their advantages just for the freedom, and to him, this is bad.
