The Importance of Knowing How to Gather Appropriate Sources and Using Them in Research

Other (Not Listed) Instructions:

You need an attention-getting device that focuses people's thoughts on the topic of "research." Your attention getter can be a short story, a joke, a quotation, a startling fact or statistic, an audience-involving question, or a reference to a recent or historical event--anything that is interesting and still related somehow to the topic of "research."(You need to get people interested in the topic of research-referring to the "information age" would get people thinking about the large amounts of information people can now access. However, people need to know how to research in order to find the information they need.)
Type up the first section of your Teaching Speech speech body. Place all of your textbook review under Roman numeral I. (Roman numerals II. and III. will be used to present your two pieces of outside research.) Use as many subpoints as you need to for your ½ page to 1 and ½ page textbook review section. (Remember your preparation outline should be typed, double-spaced, logically structured, and complete sentences. In your textbook review section, you can 1) give a complete oral source citation, 2) quote directly from the textbook, 3) explain why you quoted the textbook, 4) paraphrase the textbook in your own words, 5) present specific examples from the textbook, or 6) give your own examples to illustrate the textbook concepts or principles.

INTRODUCTION
I) How many of you can agree with me that the most significant thing is to understand how to gather credible information to use in research in the digital era?
II) My name is [Your Name], and I am here to discuss with you the importance of knowing how to gather appropriate sources and using them in research.
Thesis Statement: Understanding how to gather and use research is crucial since one will always know where to get credible information to address specific research questions.
III) Be attentive as I guide you through:
The benefits of using small groups in collecting a large amount of information found on page 265 of the textbook (Staller, Thorson-Hevle, & Hirayama, 2017).
How to cite sources correctly to avoid plagiarism using Min Pun’s peer-reviewed journal.
The journalist’s five primary questions can help you keep a good track of your research sources, which are discussed by Richard Nordquist in his article.
BODY
I) I will go through the third edition of "Small Group Work in the Real World: A Practical Approach" by Mark Staller, Andrea Thorson-Hevle, and Bryan Hirayama, published by Kendall Hunt Company in 2017. On page 265, the authors reveal how a small group can gather relevant information (Staller, Thorson-Hevle, & Hirayama, 2017).
Subdivide research tasks among members.
If the group has five members, everyone can collect four ideas about the topic. When the group meets, they can combine all these sources and end up having about twenty-five ideas. For example, I would like each of the member to research and record five advantages of why getting valid and credible sources is crucial when writing a research paper. During the next meeting, the members will combine all their ideas to form one document.
Set appropriate deadline to allow members finish their work successfully. Every person in the group should participate equally.
Search credible sources on the Internet.
Individuals should avoid blogs and websites from unrecognized institutions. The best websites to use are those with .org, .gov, or .edu.
Discuss the materials obtained to avoid members duplicating similar information.
II) In his Journal of Political Science volume 21 “Plagiarism in Scientific Writing: Why It Is Important to Know and Avoid,” Min Pun emphasizes the importance of giving credit to any ideas borrowed fro...
