Ta-Nehisi Coates asserts that “The materials for research were all around me, in the form of books assembled by your grandfather” (Coates 30). At this point, it is clear that the author was passionate about writing and reading. That is the reason why he criticized education and discovered the work of Malcolm X. Notably, he liked Malcolm X since he never lied about issues affecting black people. Through proper comprehension of various reading materials, Coates managed to document and dedicate his book to his son. Consequently, he was preparing the young person on how to survive in the United States of America (USA) as an African American.
