You need to record, so the first part of the previous part needs to be written. The recording will be sent back to you for editing. The second part is reflection. Achieve a score above 70. I will upload the feedback of my previous assignment as a reference, all week notes are in the word document, reference部分需要用Deakin Harvard style.

1 SUMMARY This task requires you to create a podcast between 5-7 minutes in length on a topic from weeks 7-10. Your podcast must be embedded into a blog post, which includes a 500-600 word reflection on your decisions, strategies, and experiences relating to your podcast. Deadline: 11.59pm, Friday 29 May. Late deductions: 5% per day will be applied in fairness to all students, including where lateness is the result of technical issues. We highly recommend making an early start – it’s just too risky (and obvious) if you leave your work until the last minute. No assignment submitted more than 5 days late can be assessed, as per Deakin policy. All requests for extensions must be emailed to the Unit Chair. Weight: 40% of overall unit mark. This document includes advice on: • How to focus your podcast • Creating your podcast • Uploading and embedding your podcast • Completing your blog’s written component • How to submit your assessment task • Marking criteria Please note that further tips for success will be provided in various learning resources and on the #ALM101 unit hashtag, so stay tuned! ALM101 Making Social Media Portfolio Output 2 Instructions 2 HOW TO FOCUS YOUR PODCAST • Your podcast must engage with one of the following topic areas: Week Topic Question 7 How has social media impacted contemporary politics in beneficial and problematic ways? 8 What potentialities and risks does social media offer activists attempting to drive social change? 9 Has the rise of crowdfunding highlighted the ‘democratising’ potential of the online world? 10 What benefits and limitations are involved in using digital media to facilitate student learning and engagement? • The above topics are intentionally broad to allow flexibility in how you explore your chosen area o Don’t think you have to provide a concrete answer to every possible aspect of such questions – they are designed to signal key issues that you can examine in any number of ways • You should narrow your focus by concentrating on a relevant example relating to your topic o Please feel free to check your choice of example with your tutor • Your reading and research will help you build an argument in relation to your topic question and example • You must draw on at least two scholarly sources in your podcast o This may include set readings and/or sources you’ve found through your own research with the library catalogue o You must make direct and explicit reference to your sources in your podcast by quoting or paraphrasing o There is no need to say more than an author name in your podcast (i.e. don’t say ‘Smith 2015 page 18’) o Include the full reference list using the Harvard style in the description box of your SoundCloud upload and at the end of your blog post o Never list sources you don’t directly use in your work o You may draw on websites, news articles, blog posts, etc. as sources where relevant and useful, but these don’t count as scholarly (peer-reviewed) research 3 CREATING YOUR PODCAST • You will find that 5-7 minutes is not a long time, so you will need to plan, script, rehearse, and edit to achieve a polished performance o The usual 10% leeway isn’t relevant here due to the wider range provided • Use a recording device that captures good quality audio (I find my phone is far superior to a laptop microphone and many computer headsets) • Locate an accessible editing program like Audacity (which is free to download and use) to edit your podcast • Any and all content you use in your podcast must be of your own making or shared with an appropriate Creative Commons licence • A brief musical intro and outro using Creative Commons licensed music (or your own if you’re musically gifted like Tiff) can enhance a podcast a great deal o Reference any Creative Commons licensed material you use in the same way as I have in my Study Notes, blogs, videos, and podcasts o Include any credits in both the description of your SoundCloud upload and at the end of your blog post o You cannot and must not simply grab whatever music sounds good from Spotify!! • If you include the voice(s) of anyone else in your podcast, you must obtain clear written permission from the individual(s) involved o Create your own brief written consent form for them to sign o Upload all copies of signed consent forms (if applicable) as part of your CloudDeakin dropbox submission – don’t put signed forms on your blog post! • Important: Your voice should be the driving force of your podcast – you may use short soundbytes from others, but you’re the one we really want to hear from 4 UPLOADING AND EMBEDDING YOUR PODCAST • Create a SoundCloud account (you can use up to 180 minutes for free) and upload your podcast to this o Make sure you test uploading an audio file to SoundCloud before you complete your assignment, as you may need to change the file format to ensure it works (using a free program like Format Factory can be very helpful) • You must embed your podcast into your blog post o Simply pasting the podcast’s URL into a Wordpress blog is usually enough to embed it – otherwise, you may need to use the separate embed code (under ‘Share’ options) COMPLETING YOUR BLOG’S WRITTEN COMPONENT • The written component of your blog post must be 500-600 words, not including your list of references o The usual 10% leeway isn’t relevant here either due to the more generous range provided • Your written component should: 1. Briefly outline the content of your podcast, the argument you wanted to convey, and the strategy(s) you adopted in creating it 2. Explain how your podcast was informed by your reading/research – i.e. explain how you used your source(s) in your podcast 3. Explain the creation of your own content and (if applicable) your use of Creative Commons licensed source material within your podcast 4. Reflect on the challenges you faced, solutions you adopted, and what you learnt from the task • Your written component may include the use of the first person (‘I’, ‘my’, etc.) • Your blog’s written reflection must not be a transcript of all or part of your podcast, and is not where you need to show evidence of your reading/research (this must be done in your podcast) • You may incorporate images into your blog post if you wish, but the podcast is the main element of the assignment that we will be focusing on • Remember the (potential) audience of a blog post is the world, not just your marker – try to frame your media in a way that’s accessible to all 5 HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR ASSESSMENT TASK • When submitting, provide the link to your specific blog post (not the home page of your blog) in the Comments box of the relevant CloudDeakin dropbox o Use the QuickLink feature to make this a working hyperlink o Ensure that the link to your blog post works by logging out of Wordpress and testing it as if you are a visitor to your site • As a backup, you must also upload both your audio file (I recommend MP3 format to keep it small) and a copy of the written component of your blog post (in a Word or PDF file) to the dropbox o Don’t worry about the formatting of the material in your document – it will only be your published blog post and embedded SoundCloud podcast that will be marked o You can also provide the link to your blog post at the start of your document if you wish • Attach any signed consent forms to the dropbox if applicable TIFF’S FINAL HINTS AND TIPS • I strongly recommend that you experiment with the different elements of making a podcast (scripting, recording, editing, uploading, embedding, etc.). Your first podcast will undoubtedly be the hardest, so learning by doing early is always a good idea! • Never leave starting an assignment like this (or any assignment) until the last minute. Rushed work is always obvious to a marker, and the chance of technical issues occurring – which will cost marks for lateness – is always possible • Back. Up. Everything. • And good luck!! 6 MARKING CRITERIA • The following table gives a broad indication of what your marker will be looking for • These criteria will be evaluated on CloudDeakin using an online rubric, but please note that they do not equate to a particular number of marks per criterion (i.e. this is not a quantitative marking system) Criterion Needs Improvement Satisfactory Good Very Good Excellent Demonstrated competence in using digital media forms and platforms Evidence of creative and independent thinking Evidence of critical thinking informed by reading and research Ability to develop a clear and structured argument Appropriate use and acknowledgment of source material (Harvard referencing and crediting of other media used) Relevant verbal and nonverbal skills (including clarity, tone, volume, written expression, etc.) Ability to remain within the assessment restrictions (word and time limits) Overall quality of media produced

Social Media and Its Pros and Cons Portfolio Output
Part 1: Audio
It is no secret that social media is one of the marvels in advanced technology that has revolutionized communication or rather the exchange and passage of information among members of the global society. The advent of social media has a wide range of effects on the social, political, and economic dimensions or aspects of society. The equally diverse online interactive platforms, for instance, facilitate the expression of political views and individual opinions of the same across the social divide. Social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter function to provide an effective platform for increased political engagement among individuals and groups people in societies around the world. However, the telecommunication technology innovations have since attracted varied opinions concerning their effects and influence on the political dimension or aspect of today’s society CITATION Gar191 \l 1033 (Garret, 2019). In essence, the world is split between individuals who laud social media as an effective facilitator for increased political engagement among members of society and those who deem such platforms as an impediment to the freedom of political integration and interaction. Social media platforms can thus be used to influence political decisions of the masses by encouraging an electorate to support a given political ideology, concept, or belief as witnessed in the 2008 campaigns for the presidential election in the United States CITATION Gar191 \l 1033 (Garret, 2019). President Barrack Obama’s campaign team made effective use of social media platforms to influence the United States’ electorate through the “Yes We Can” campaign slogan CITATION Gar191 \l 1033 (Garret, 2019). The same online platforms also function to provide a voice for the oppressed as it allows affected individuals to protest or voice their dissidence against oppressive regimes and instituting positive changes. New strategies and approaches for instituting political changes such as social media activism are gaining popularity among the masses and have proved themselves highly effective towards achieving the desired political outcomes. It is, however, the same online or social media platforms also receive their fair share criticism for their adverse effects on various aspects of society’s political dimension. Politicians are, for instance, make use of social media or rather manipulate these platforms to fabricate information that generates political support for their ideologies. Politicians make use of social media platforms to dictate the narratives of news reporting in mainstream media to reflect the ideologies of their diverse political orientations. The emergence and proliferation of ‘fake news’ witnessed today across the different media platforms thrive on the manipulation of social media by political entities to influence the functioning of democratic societies around the globe (Kruse 2018, pg. 64). Such circumstances arise from the unsanctioned use of data and information of the4 people using social media platforms for the manipulation of the democratic public sphere availed by social media. The recent exposure of such unauthori...
