Each nation, tribe, or race has a form of the indigenous trait. According to Hurwitz and Bourque (2014), in colonial territories, anyone who is not a native of a particular region was considered a settler. Through the invasion of the colonialists into native territories, indigenous perspectives were forced into extinction. Throughout history, indigenous people groups have been erased through various ways such as assimilation, genocide, and forced interbreeding.
Genocide may be considered as a historical event. However, according to Churchill’s response (Canadian Dimension 1998), the twenty-first-century citizens in Canada continually experience modern genocide. The goal of genocide was to eliminate a particular cultural group. Therefore, any system in the society, legal or illegal aimed at erasing the dominant traits of a particular culture is genocide. Forcing people to adopt the ways of life of a dominant group in society is fighting their indigenous identity.
