Other (Not Listed) Instructions:

Overview
You’ve chosen your project, so you’re ready to communicate with those “customer(s)” and stakeholders who care most about the process and outcome of the project. In this activity, imagine you’ve just finished up an Agreement of Work meeting with your customer(s) where you defined the scope of the project and agreed on the project objectives. Now, you need to write a follow-up email to go over what discussed and agreed upon in the meeting. You will write a professional email to the customer(s) of your project, recapping the goals and objectives, tentative timeline, and potential resources necessary to complete the project. Clear, consistent communication is one of the keys to project management success.
Instructions
Before beginning this activity, make sure you have:
Read the “All Assignments Overview” Preparation section in Week 1.
Identified a project to manage throughout this course. If you chose option (6), to manage your own project, remember to get approval from your instructor via email.
Downloaded the Week 3 Activity: Projects Goals and Objectives template [.DOCX].
For this activity, complete the following:
In the Week 3 Activity template, follow the detailed instructions on page 1.
Use the provided sample email on page 2 in the template as a guide to write an email to your customer(s) on page 3, recapping your Agreement of Work meeting and suggesting a summary of:
the goals and objectives of the project.
a tentative deadline for the project.
an initial idea of what resources will be needed to successfully complete the project.
In your email, include and highlight the seven key terms from the textbook provided on the template, using each term correctly and in a professional context.
Submit your activity by uploading the completed template document to Blackboard in Week 3.
Assignment information from Week 1
Assignments Overview and Preparation
We all have experience managing projects of various sizes in our daily lives, so we know that planning, organizing, and communicating with the people involved leads to project success.
Throughout this course, you will practice these skills by planning and managing one of the following projects:
A company’s staff returning to the office post-covid
A team retreat
An office relocation (such as moving a department to another floor, or moving staff to another building)
A retirement party for a work colleague
A home renovation (you may choose the specific project, room addition, kitchen remodel, or bathroom renovation)
If options (1) through (5) don’t work for you, you may choose your own project, subject to approval by your instructor. Email your instructor with your project idea for approval before continuing with upcoming activities and assignments.
If you choose (6), to plan and manage your own project, remember that:
A project is something that has a defined beginning and end.
A project is something out of the ordinary, not a routine task like mowing the lawn or doing laundry.
A project requires a series of activities that must be done to complete the project.
A project requires resources, like people and materials, to complete the objectives.
A project results in something being delivered to someone or a group.
When deciding on your project, keep in mind that this is an opportunity to build a beneficial portfolio piece if you plan to continue down the path toward working in the Project Management field.
After you choose the subject of your project, you will work through several stages of project management:
In Week 3, you will identify the main “customer” or “customers” who will benefit from the project. You will write an email to the customer(s) to briefly outline the tentative goals and objectives, timeline, and resources necessary to complete your project.
In Week 4, you will dive deeper into the cost, materials, and labor needed to complete the project by creating a spreadsheet of resources and budget.
In Week 6, you will create a spreadsheet detailing all the tasks necessary to complete the project and the time it will take to complete each task. Then, you will write a paper using concepts from the textbook to explain your task list and how you developed your timeline.
In Week 8, you will write an email to your customer(s) again, giving them a project progress report.
Finally, in Week 10, you will construct a presentation for your stakeholders, showcasing how you planned and managed your project, incorporating feedback you received from your instructor throughout the course.
