Character Analysis

Other (Not Listed) Instructions:

You are going to create not only the character but the circumstances for your character in this play. PLEASE NOTE: In the final script you will be playing only one character. Who you are talking to is a person off-screen (you can pretend the camera is that person, if you want).
Note: Begin the analysis for your one-performer play right after your proposal is approved, and it will work in your favor. Your play may not reveal all the answers to the questions below, but your job is to MAKE CHOICES and come to know as much as possible about your character even if you have to assume/draw conclusions. Be creative and have fun!
WHO ARE YOU? (All the details about your character including name, age, address, relatives, likes, dislikes, hobbies, career, description of physical traits, opinions, beliefs, religion, education, origins, enemies, loved ones, sociological influences, etc.) (1 POINTS)
WHAT TIME IS IT? (Season, year, day, and state the significance of time) (1 POINT)
WHERE ARE YOU? (Country, city, neighborhood, home/office/wherever, room, area of room) (1 POINT)
WHAT SURROUNDS YOU? (Animate and inanimate objects-complete details of environment) (1 POINT)
WHAT ARE YOUR GIVEN CIRCUMSTANCES? (How did you get to the state you're in now? What choices did you make to end up here?) (in the example I used in the concept statement, the bureaucrat has discovered that her boss at the EPA has secretly approved toxic waste dumping in a local lake where children play and swim) (5 POINTS)
WHO ARE YOU CONFRONTING? (You are creating a single off-screen person to talk to: not just a name, but your relationship to them; how would you define what they mean to you?) (again, in the example, the bureaucrat is talking to her boss) (10 POINTS)
WHAT DO YOU NEED THEM TO DO? (What do you want them to do to or for you? What is your character's need? What do you need to do or say to get what you want from them.) (the bureaucrat wants her boss to stop polluting the lake). AVOID USING VERBS SUCH AS "AGREE", "THINK", and "UNDERSTAND". FIND AN ACTION VERB! (5 POINTS)
WHAT IS AT RISK FOR YOUR CHARACTER? (The bureaucrat could be fired or prosecuted as a whistleblower if she goes to the media. But if she doesn't get the polluting to stop, lives are at stake, including her family's) (10 POINTS)
WHY ARE THEY RESISTING? (What are they saying or doing to prevent you from getting what you want? How can you convince/get around them?) (the boss puts profit and his own promotion over the risk to the population) (1 POINTS)
WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO DO TO YOUR ANTAGONIST TO GET WHAT YOU WANT? (The action: physical and verbal, also-use action verbs: "I must...") ("I must threaten to blow the whistle on the whole thing, risking both our jobs, because it's the right thing to do.") (10 POINTS)

1 WHO ARE YOU? (All the details about your character, including name, age, address, relatives, likes, dislikes, hobbies, career, description of physical traits, opinions, beliefs, religion, education, origins, enemies, loved ones, sociological influences, etc.) (1 POINTS)
1 My name is Carlos Gomez; 28 years old and a citizen of New York. I am living alone in my apartment near Manhattan and have been living a quiet life ever since. My parents are also immigrants from Colombia, but I was raised here in the United States. Before becoming a fully licensed psychologist, I had to work part-time for my college degree.
However, as I was interviewing Francis, the CIA tapped me and said that I had to give a false report regarding Francis' status.
2 WHAT TIME IS IT? (Season, year, day, and state the significance of time) (1 POINT)
2 The season of the year is winter. The exact date is the 5th of December, 2022. The significance of time is that it establishes a bleak and cold season, in contrast with the jolly seasons of Christmas.
3 WHERE ARE YOU? (Country, city, neighborhood, home/office/wherever, room, area of the room) (1 POINT)
3 I am in Unit 5D of the Manhattan Suites, New York City, United States.
4 WHAT SURROUNDS YOU? (Animate and inanimate objects-complete details of environment) (1 POINT)
4 What surrounds me is a simple chair, recording equipment, and about 2 of my staff. We have to work discreetly since there are people who are after us.
5 WHAT ARE YOUR GIVEN CIRCUMSTANCES? (How did you get to the state you're in now? What choices did you make to end up here?) (in the example I used in the concept statement, the bureaucrat has discovered that her boss at the EPA has secretly approved toxic waste dumping in a local lake where children play and swim) (5 POINTS)
5 Francis used to work for the state community as the head of state security, and now the government might have intervened to save his existence as a threat to the whole nation. Therefore, what Francis does with the kidnapping of his family opens a hidden agenda of national security by confining the poor and inflicting sin on innocent citizens to uphold their flawed characters as the state. This was conducted in line with the CIA's Project Medusa, which aimed to control the lives of their agents and mercenaries using extreme psychological tactics.
Nonetheless, Project Medusa is very effective especially when it comes to the use of psychological coercion and blackmailing of its agents. Thus, even though Francis wanted to divulge these secrets to me, he is hesitant and undecided, thinking that something might happen to his family if he did so.
In line with this, I am a reporter who will be covering Francis since I have millions of followers for my controversial topics, which are backed by my "psychological insights." Additionally, a significant number of my content are about secret human r...
