Background Statistics on changes in the employed, unemployed and unemployment rate in the United States are published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which are based on the monthly Current Population Survey. Households nationwide provide information relevant to understand the changes and trends in the nation’s labor force. BLS estimates on the employed reflects those reported employment in a job or business during the week prior to the interview. The questions addressed are: Where do the statistics come from? Who is counted as employed? How are seasonal fluctuations taken into account? How is unemployment measured for states and local areas? Where statistics come from?
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) of the U.S. Department of Labor releases data on the number and rate of the employed and unemployed. It is impossible to count all the people who are unemployed and rely on unemployment insurance records to get an accurate picture about unemployment, which is the percentage of the labor force that is unemployed. There are approximately 60,000 eligible households in the sample for the CPS survey, and the samples chosen are representative of the entire population of the U.S. in different sampling units. Employment is measured by the CPS. When households provide data and information on unemployed status, there are estimates of unemployment rate in the United States and differences median household income for calendar. The survey also provides insights on which groups have higher unemployment and unemployment rates within the same period.
Who is counted as employed
At the national level, the percentage of the economically active population /labor force changes and the averages in the quarters of a year indicate the time when more people are employed, when the unemployment rate falls. those who worked during eh survey and are on vacation, ill, catering to child care issues, maternity or paternity leave, taking care of family obligations, ill, prevented to work because of bad weather and those involved in labor dispute . The CPS mostly focuses on wage and salary workers, but there are also, unpaid family workers, self-employed people, farm workers, persons employed by private households, and workers temporarily absent from work without pay.
There are other labor-force-related statistics, but the CPS remains the primary data source for U.S. unemployment. Some do not earn wages and income, but are considered employed in calculating the employm...
