The Most Outstanding Leadership Approaches
Introduction
The Covid-19 pandemic caught businesses by surprise and continues to spread, disrupting global supply chains, business practices, and workplace norms. In order to achieve recovery and sustainable growth amid the crisis, organizations must design and implement proactive leadership and management approaches. As workplace norms change with each generation, business leaders must reconsider their leadership behaviors, methodologies, and traits. This paper evaluates the appropriate management styles for the Millennials, the need to adjust management approaches to meet the changing work arrangement due to Covid-19 disruptions, and the anticipated work norms due to the crisis. It also evaluates the three most outstanding business leaders regarding their habits, traits, and methodologies.
Question 1A: Management styles for millennials
The four basic management styles include Persuasive (Charismatic Management), Autocratic (Coercive Management), Laissez-faire (Delegative Management), and Democratic (Participative Style of Management). In this vein, millennials (Generation Y) are a selection of the cohort who existed there before the 21st century. Researchers suggest their distinct workplace characteristics demand specific management styles. In order to adopt the best-fit management style for millennials, it is vital to understand some aspects befitting this group. This generation is tech-savvy and deemed highly educated, technically wise, informed, and firm believers in individual development. They could also be socially active, self-reliant, team-oriented, and independent. They have an endless desire to seek skill development while maintaining work-life balance (Sarwono and Bernarto 736). They are flexible and desire personal and professional growth, continuous learning, and satisfaction at work. They can effectively multitask due to their proactive abilities. Therefore, managers should incorporate these elements in adopting necessary management styles for millennials.
The first management style best fits this group is the delegative management style. The managers in this context allow the employees to provide input in the decision-making process. Communication is in both ways, and team cohesiveness is enhanced. Millennials operate better in cohesive teams, giving rise to informed opinions and thoughts. Even though the managers are the final decision-makers, they must consider the information the millennial member teams laid out. In this vein, the style is effective since it promotes positive bonds for professional and personal growth, ideas and management opinions are provided by the teams, and innovation in problem-solving is encouraged. The other style is participative management, where managers and employees actively make decisions. The staff gets more access to the organization’s information and provides innovative solutions (Sarwono and Bernarto 736). Employees, therefore, feel a connection and value in contributing to personal and company success. Therefore, to adjust the management styles for millennials, managers should consider the hunger for professional growth in this particular generation.
