Why is College Overrated
In the past few years, there has been a growing trend in the number of college-bound individuals earning certifications or diplomas from their favorite institutions or getting two-year degrees from community colleges. This is not because they are not interested in seeking admission at colleges; it is because they cannot afford a college education. According to Marty Nemko, college education costs high and takes years of people’s lives (Nemko 3). At the same time, it leaves good impacts on their careers and paves their way toward the peaks of success. However, the disadvantages of a college education cannot be ignored, one of them being its high costs. There are many reasons why a college education is overrated and not worth the price, some of which are as follows.
Federal student aid, which is a necessity for many talented students who otherwise may never be able to finance their studies, contribute to the problem of rising tuition costs. First of all, it is easy for students to access or avail federal student aid. Knowing that someone else is going to finance their studies makes individuals less concerned about the price tag. Another reason is that federal student aid has risen in the last few years. The goal is to finance studies of a maximum number of people. In the meantime, the quality of education is not up to the mark.
In today’s competitive environment, it has become mandatory for parents to send their children to colleges. They want them to gain knowledge so that they can enter practical lives with their fullest.
