Paragraphs Jane Eyre. Historical Criticisms, Psychological Criticisms

My reasons for writing about the book Jane Eyre, and using the criticisms I have chosen, take a number of forms. I wanted to focus on the work of Charlotte Brontë at least in part because her work has not received the same level of attention as, for example, Jane Austen. I also wanted to bring in some ideas surrounding historical and psychological theory to have some outside ideas of the work. My own opinions on the book will be interspersed with the ideas from those various areas of criticism. I choose to look at the book through a psychological perspective in part because of the extreme strictures placed on women during the time it was written. I believe that Jane Eyre is a very good indication of the detrimental effects felt by women due to those restrictions, much as Mansfield Park is for the Regency era. In a similar manner, I have chosen to look at historical criticisms for much the same reason, and to give my own opinions some basis in the facts of the matter as they occur.
My attention to the difference between fairy tales and reality in my work is to do with the way in which Jane sees the world around her. Fairy tales enhance the world that Jane lives in, and the various ways that she and Rochester in particular refer to each other. My work into this would be to show how exactly the fairy tales allusions are used within each person’s psyche, and to show what that means for...
