Here's a sample paragraph of how to connect your demand to an actual case in the book or in real life, if you can find one. Try your best to connect your situation to what we learned in class. If you can't find an actual case to connect your situation to, you can refer to the law itself. Doing one of these will strengthen your demand letter.
The following example refers to the case on top of page 262; Case 10.2.
EXAMPLE:
By accepting employment and working at the store, I agreed to the store’s promise of a $1,000 bonus payable at the end of the first year, as long as I was still working there. There were no other provisions or conditions mentioned or agreed to at the time about this bonus. Now, after a year, the store is claiming that because business was not as good as planned, you have to reduce the bonus to $250. This is a breach of our agreement. This is similar to what happened in Boswell v. Panera Bread Co., where the court ruled that “Panera’s promise to pay bonuses in return for … continued employment was an offer for a unilateral contract”. Just like in this case, the store’s offer of a $1,000 bonus as long as we stayed for one year was a valid unilateral offer, and by staying there one year, I fulfilled my performance requirements on the offer.

As discussed via email, I am writing to notify you that my three-month overtime pay is past due.
The total amount owing is $200. This amount relates to overtime worked at your restaurant from February to June. As per our agreement, I was supposed to receive $8 per hour for extra hours worked beyond my allocated shift. However, in the period mentioned above, I only received pay for the extra time worked during the weekends, not including the hours worked during the weekdays.
Upon inquiry, you gave reasons that were not part of our agreement. First, you claimed that the agreement would only hold if my contribution during the overtime were reflected in the overall restaurant sales, which you say did not happen. Second, you highlighted that the overtime you compensated for was for hours worked during the weekends as those are the busiest days in the restaurant. Lastly, you pointed out the COVID-19 situation in the country, and the restrictions imposed greatly affected the industry. This is besides the fact that the company shifted its approach t...
