The first person interviewed believes that the reason for murder is that people are often confronted with feelings of disappointment or frustration and anger during their interaction with others. Many people have difficulties controlling their anger. If they are hurt, for instance a person in love, they take the law into their own hands killing the perpetrator. Not everyone can control their anger. Physiologists believe that self-control is the key to a well-functioning life because people‘s brains are susceptible to all sorts of influences leading to social isolation altering one’s ability to exercise cognitive control. As a result, an individual’s cognitive control capacities are redirected resulting in murder.
The second person I interviewed thinks that the reason for murder is as a result of social alienation. Owing to unemployment, for instance, young people get involved in violent gangs, selling drugs for quick money. Gangs provide a sense of identity and belonging for young people who feel lost and confused. Sometimes while conducting gangs’ activities, people end up committing murder for self-defense or revenge.
According to Marx theory of strain, strain or stress builds up when a person recognizes their inferiority or disadvantaged position in the society vis-Γ -vis other groups. If such conditions are prolonged and the situation intensifies, it provokes angry protest. Robert Merton states that the society provides both cultural values goals and means.
