1. After reading the chapter on Cross-Cultural research and study of dance, what do you think are the advantages of comparative dance study? Can you list some reasons that support the value of cross-culturally studying dance? Why do you think you would want to develop this skill as a dancer? Student? and/or Researcher?
2. Consider the variety of etic frameworks that are useful for comparing dance around the world. Draw from your own academic background and describe a theory or concept that might have an interesting application to dance. Scholars from fields such as psychology, sociology, anthropology, education, and art utilize diverse etic frameworks that are also relevant to multicultural dance study. List at least one or two concepts you have learned about in a field/area of study that can also be applied to dance.
3. Focussed Study: In the chapter, it discussed how one dynamic process by which dance evolves is diffusion, which implies dispersion or transmission of information from the source. Besides Capoeira, think about dances that have a specific origin in history or come from one place around the world and have traveled to a new context. What examples can you list? How do you think the dances "moved" from one time and space to another? What "vehicles" (methods) transmit dance information?

Social advantages are also identified as they aid in better relationships with others and improve one’s understanding of certain aspects of their culture and communities.
