The rising cases of cancer and other chronic diseases have put a strain on healthcare delivery in a majority of developing countries. A disease like cancer continues to bring about unforeseen challenges to the healthcare system while exposing major loopholes that need to be addressed if healthcare systems are to attain the level of effectiveness needed. In their study, Price et al. (2012) offer readers a glimpse of the sorry state of healthcare in developing countries. Currently, there are fewer centers that are equipped to handle cancer patients and this forces hundreds if not thousands of patients to make their way to the only centers that are deemed capable. Some of these centers are hundreds of miles away and under-equipped to handle the many patients that come. The result of this is that more challenges abound and further strain provision of care.
An example of a healthcare challenge that permeates the healthcare system of developing countries is delays in diagnosis.
