Before the beginning of feminist movements, women had no right in the society and they could not even be allowed to participate in the national politics. Moreover, they were not allowed to own properties in their own names. The issue brought a lot of underdevelopment among the women which made them start fighting for their rights. Further, there were several cases of women being harassed, sex violence, and domestic violence. Therefore, there were cultural, financial, social, and political inequalities among women during the period before the movements as the society was dominated by males.

There were several women movement groups during the time such as ‘’Women Employed’’ which was formed in 1970s and majored on achieving financial equality among all women. The movement claimed equal employment opportunities for all women. Another group was ‘’National League of Women Voters’’ that focused on improving anti-poverty and civil rights programs. Also, the group aimed at involving more women in the political arena to occupy the top positions within the country. Additionally, ‘’ERAmerica’’ group was formed in 1975 and aimed at fighting equal rights amendments in the society.

The motivating factor for second-wave feminists was to fight for women rights which included the dress codes and employment. The movement brought some amendments on divorce laws that enabled women to engage more in law making, politics, and economic development. The movement did put an end to household and domestic roles of women in the society.
