Following Donohue’s article on the review of the Fourth Amendment in the digital world, the amendment failed to protect the privacy interests and rights as demanded by the people of the United States. This was as a result of the increasing information that was being shared in the media platforms, which led to an increased need for security and privacy control. I agree with Donohue’s assertion that the Fourth Amendment doctrine no longer reflects how the world operates. This is because there has been several improvements and advancements of the technology since the amendment was brought to action in the 1970s. The new technology has broken down and gone further to complicate the approaches in which the courts of law used to view and protect individual rights to privacy.
Also, digital technology has brought ambiguity of distinguishing between private versus public space, domestic versus international, content versus non-content, and personal information versus third party data (Donohue, 2017).
