The social work profession experienced tremendous growth between 1945 and 1974. The recognition of BSW was fueled by several amendments to the Social Security Act that pushed for more trained social workers (Popple, 2018). With the capacity of graduate schools not being enough to meet the demand for trained social workers, there was a need for BSW recognition. As informed by Popple (2018), money was a significant factor that facilitated the recognition of BSW, with the 1967 amendment to the Social Security Act setting aside funds to expand social work education.
