As President Biden started building and laying down his plans for the future of the United States, one of the pertinent questions that were asked was “his opinion on the state of equality” that the nation has. So far, the United States of America has successfully leaped from its past and has embraced new ideologies in terms of equality and diversity. Whether it be between ethnicity, gender, or class, among others, the America that we know from the history books is very different from the one that we live in now. However, it seems that there is still a lot that we have to do before reaching the ideals we are aiming for.
Studies show that our country is far from embracing absolute equality on various fronts despite the ideals of equality that we pray for. For example, in terms of equality between gender, a study entitled “Women, Business and the Law 2019: A Decade of Reform” has shown that even though the United States is one of the states that embrace gender equality, it lags behind several countries in terms of equal pay, pension benefits, and paid-maternity leave, which are all indicators of gender equality according to the World Bank CITATION Sch19 \l 1033 (Schmidt, 2019). Similar to this, studies also show that racial equality is still alive and present today in America, albeit less manifest. In an article written by Dobi (2021), he noted that even though racial inequality is not as apparent as during our past, it is still alive and kicking today. For example, the Federal Reserve has noted that in 2019, the median household of Whites and Blacks are $188,200 and $24,100, respectively. These instances are just a snapshot of what is happening in our nation until today.
