Reaction to Three Articles
Isil Ata May 19, 2020 article "How the COVID-19 Crisis Has Made HR One of the Most Important Jobs Today" describes the essential roles of human resources (HR) teams to help employees stay relevant, reconfigure workflows, increase employee morale, and redeploy talent. The author highlighted that HR is now among the essential organizational functions following the COVID-19 pandemic (Ata, 2020). I agree with this perspective since the HR department has had to manage the employees during confusing, challenging, and stressful times, making the department among the most important jobs in the world today. As the author noted, the pandemic has caused high-stress levels due to the negative financial and emotional impacts on the employees. I concur with this perspective since some employees dealt with financial and job uncertainties and worked from home with increased social responsibilities. HR can offer strong support, communicate empathetically, provide continuous training, provide compassionate leadership, and be innovative under a budget (Ata, 2020). Therefore, I agree that HR is essential to enhancing a positive work structure to enhance employee engagement, rest, and productivity.
Hafiza Gujaran May 18, 2020 article "Five Lessons from the Pandemic about the Value of HR" explains that the COVID-19 crisis has influenced HR to create extraordinary value, particularly the capacity to act and lead with agility. Gujaran (2020) highlighted that HR's significant value enables leadership to create the kindest, most empathetic, and balanced decisions that enhance the firm's and staff's well-being. I concur with this perspective because HR provides appropriate balance across the firm, suppliers, employees, clients, customers, and other relevant stakeholders. HR teams have change management and agility skills that help them act quickly to implement the needed change that enhances overall well-being. Furthermore, I agree with the author that the pandemic instilled lessons of an essential HR function of having continuous data systems and warehouses to provide flexible and consistent employee data (Gujaran, 2020). As the author noted, I agree that HR should recognize and ensure the completion of essential but non-urgent tasks and strengthen the core organization's values to the employees. Ultimately, the firm would develop, attract, and retain value among its stakeholders.
