With the applications I have used from google play store, most of them will seek access to your phone depending on the purpose they serve. Image editing apps, for instance, will seek access to your images while Facebook and Instagram look to access the contacts. This is concerning because nowadays most apps have all personal details and a picture of the owner. We are heading to a world where cunning individuals will use applications as a disguise to stalk individuals and perpetrate serious crimes. Google and Apple are two of the biggest app providers and they should ensure that every application on their stores provides statements of their data usage.

Yes, it is a necessary evil. The society today is fueled by technology and social media. People have become so reliant on their devices that they can’t live a life without it. App developers have satisfied this demand and nowadays, there is virtually an app for everything. Our brains have also been wired to expect rewards therefore, we are always looking forward to the next update. This is the same attitude with content creation where we expect creators like Facebook to serve our interests. This means that creators and app developers require data to know our interests and create something of value to us.
