Your letters should focus on the readings, independent reflection, and responding to your colleague’s letter. Your letters should aim to explain what you find interesting or what strikes you as important, accurate/inaccurate, confusing, or just plain odd.
colleague‘s letter:
Harold and the Purple Crayon made me think of why we create our own problems alongside our own worlds. As well as the subjectivity of objectivity itself as it’s impossible to conceive reality in any way but through our own human experience of knowledge. From the prior letter I wrote about not wanting to look in the mirror rationalize, question, etc. what I “look” like but reading what Kant wrote made me note that unity of consciousness and recognizing objects are determined by empirical and transcendental apperception. This intrigued me as I found the fact that a camera can’t take a picture of itself to be important in subjectivity and objective knowledge. I feel that this fact could be beneficial in a field such as developmental psychology in terms of assisting those in growth in attempting to stall inherent insecurities in a modern age of over-representation and misinformation. Where the “I” one perceives isn’t determined by how you “look.” But rather this replayed pattern of consciousness to being. Which in itself sounds simple but in reality you go through a process in a matter of seconds (or longer) when evaluating simply an object to inform, to understand. We like to “jump the gun” so to say where when we have no stimuli for this conciousness to being pattern to take place we prefer to make it for ourselves (which is what I got from this) with it’s own “problems” to seek understanding. I feel this way especially nowadays where many important experiences are overshadowed by a lack of that personal touch, that interaction which is projected through a device rather than informing yourself on your prior understandings or cognition. Such as being fed “information” through a phone or interacting with someone through said phone.
Sincerely,

I found your letter very interesting to read, especially when you mentioned that "a camera cannot take a picture of itself." Through this statement, the issue of the subjectivity and objectivity of knowledge is well depicted. By using a camera, pictures of others can be taken, but this is not something a camera can do for itself, and as you mentioned, this can be very helpful in developmental psychology. We live in a society where overrepresentation and misinformation occur a lot. Thus, for individuals in the process of maturation, this information is critical because it enables them to recognize that there are things they cannot do for themselves, even when they easily do the same thing for others.
Additionally, a piece of information I found to be very accurate in your letters is that today, many...
