Employee motivation is considered an essential element to the effective performance of any given organization, more so, the criminal justice system (Rappaport, 2020). Psalms 82, verse 3 calls upon Christians to ensure that the weak have access to justice and the rights of the destitute are affirmed. Consequently, leaders in the criminal justice system have to diagnose the motivation levels of employees in the criminal justice system and adopt viable approaches that can be used to increase motivation levels among criminal justice workers.
The assertion that criminal justice employees are unmotivated should not be underplayed. Notably, the nature of the work and outcomes involved in the criminal justice system, as well as, other environmental factors increase the likelihood of workers in the field becoming unmotivated. For example, law enforcement officers face stressful situations daily when discharging their duties leading to burnout (Oberfield, 2014). In the same vein, juvenile officers and other criminal justice officer has to grapple with working in an environment characterized by high levels of bureaucracy and limited resources. The assertion that criminal justice workers have a basis. Notably, extrinsic rewards are unlikely to be as effective as intrinsic rewards in the motivation of criminal justice workers given that most workers are motivated by more than just remunerations when deciding to become criminal justice workers. As such, the possible approaches to enhancing the levels of motivation among criminal justice workers should focus on offering intrinsic rewards as opposed to extrinsic rewards (Oberfield, 2014).
Just like all organizations, criminal justice leaders are expected to play a role in influencing the level of motivation among the workers they manage.
