The Treaty of Versailles refers to the peace treaty that was signed in 1919. It is the treaty that officially ended World War I. The peacemakers at Versailles were hoping that they would make 'the war to end all wars' but the Peace of Versailles was however not successful and has been hugely criticized over the years. Not only was this treaty criticized later after its failure, but many delegates at the time were against it. Such delegates include a German MP in the Reichstag in 1919, Harold Nicolson, author of a book titled Peacemaking published in 1919 and Carole Faithorn who was a British historian and economist (Henig, 2011).
