Introduction
European colonialism brought unparalleled progress to the colonizers and paved the way for the construction of the Empire. But it has also brought with it horrors and atrocities way beyond the imaginations of humanity. The violence and genocide suffered by Native Americans at the start of the colonization period, the slavery of the African nation and the establishment of the slave trade industry in the 17th century - all these are testaments of horrors in the stained history of the European continent. However, it will be shown in the foregoing discussion through the eyes of a number of historians and scholars that what colonizers brought to its colonies was also met with resistance, organized and otherwise, by the natives and the slaves.

The meeting of Europeans and Africans in America resulted into "slavery, revolt, the sociability of daily life, and, inevitably, sexual union" (Jordan, 1974: 69). Interracial union was as inevitable as the sexual drive that governs almost every human being. In this case, the white people in the colonies were caught in a conflict where on one hand they perceive the Negroes as similar to them, and on the other as different from them. Thereafter, the American Revolution saw radical changes in the American consciousness - the Americans saw themselves as different from the Englishmen but at the same realized the necessity of fundamental equality with the Negroes. According to Jordan (1974: 113), "environmentalism became an engine in the hands of republicans asserting their independence from the Old World."
