American Holocaust: The Conquest of the New World
The past world has been full of very many injustices and in most cases; they were meted to the minority groups in the society. After the explosion of the first atomic bomb in the desert of New Mexico that occurred in July 1945, it is important to note that just like J. Robert Oppenheimer noted "I am become death, the shatterer of worlds"( Stannard, 1993, pp. ix). "Just twenty-one days after the first atomic test in the desert, the Japanese industrial town of Hiroshima was leveled by nuclear blast; never before had so many people-at least 130,000, probably more-died from a single explosion"(ibid, pp. ix-x). A new world order had been set because the Americans had a weapon than nobody else in the world could get. These standards set what could prove to be a competition of technology among the involved countries. Countries had realized that it was impossible to win a war if one was not adequately armed and as a result, governments had invested heavily in warfare. However, despite the death that resulted from the atomic bombs, it is worth noting that very many other people had died from other things, which were because of human error. Very many people had died from diseases, which were introduced by the adventurous Europeans to the mother people across the world. The holocaust did not end long ago because, "As recently as 1986, the Commission on Human Rights of the Organization of American States observed that 40,000 people had simply disappeared in Guatemala during the preceding fifteen years. Another 100,000 had been openly murdered" (ibid, xiii).
