Examples of scholarly activities include attending conferences, seminars, journal club, grand rounds, morbidity and mortality meetings, interdisciplinary committees, quality improvement committees, and any other opportunities available at your site, within your community, or nationally.
You are required to post one scholarly activity while you are in the BSN program, which should be documented by the end of this course. In addition to this submission, you are required to be involved and contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives on a regular basis.

Scholarly Activity Summary
Overview
Maternal and child healthcare providence for first-time mothers is essential for the well-being of both the mother and their new-born children. The postpartum period for such mothers could be very challenging as it is characterized by confusion on the best approach to take in providing primary care for the infants. The first-time mothers, therefore, need an effective support mechanism or intervention involving a collective effort of the health care professionals and the society as a whole. The psychological and physical demands requiring the collaborative effort may arise from their need to feel normal or content with the care they provide to their newborns. The traditional values and beliefs concerning motherhood often breed confusion as the notion of infant care through motherly intuition may either concur or contradict with the outsourced information from the wide range of sources from which the mothers seek clarity, directions, and support during the postpartum period. As a member of the quality improvement committee at the local health care facility, the healthcare practitioners, and first-time mothers’ forum provided an opportunity to participate in the development of effective interventions to improve the quality of service delivery to the first-time mothers and their newborns. Participation in the forum availed first-hand information on the postpartum challenges facing first-time mothers and their quest and need for support as they strive to provide the best primary care for their infant children.
Problem
The scholarly activity purposed to identify the major concerns for the first-time mothers concerning motherhood or rather the areas of need during the postpartum period necessitating the support of healthcare professionals. The accessibility of primary health care needs and support from the health care professionals is often side-lined owing to the stigmatization of the mothers as a result of the high and low-risk criteria for providing the post-partum care (Aston M. P., 2014). The forum sought to reduce the uncertainties of the first-time mothers as they endeavor or start on the journey of motherhood by facilitating their confidence in seeking professional support from the nurses, doctors, and physicians. The joy of a successful birth of a child is often curtailed by the mother’s concern for how to determine the best mothering practice for the infants. The postpartum needs of first-time mothers go beyond the mere concern for the rates of breastfeeding and other physical health care demands for both the infants and the mothers (Graham, 2011). Support mechanisms to consolidate the mothers’ confidence in their motherly intuition and ability to choose and decide the proper mothering practice should be readily available. The overwhelming challenge of becoming a good mother breeds confusion that could adversely affect both the psychological and physical well-being of the mother, which is essential for the effective development of the child (Organization, 2013). As a nurse, it is important to acquaint with the mothers’ reasons for confusion arising from the psychological need to be a normal mother or content wi...
