The Quadruple Aim and Evidence-Based Practice
Nurses’ role in the health care sector is significant. Their roles include improving patient care through evidence-based practice (EBP) and offering psychological support to patients. However, the nature of the nursing care environment lends itself to a looming obstacle for effective care delivery as a majority of United States nurses, about 51 percent, complained of the job negatively impacting their health (Sikka, Morath, & Leape, 2015). This revelation puts the nursing Quadruple Aim in limbo. In particular, the area of contention is the possibility of evidence-based practice guaranteeing quality care, enhanced patient experience, reducing costs, and enhanced health care providers’ life as outlined in the Quadruple Aim. It is debatable that EBP and Quadruple Aim are linked to some extent; however, EBP does not fully satisfy Quadruple Aim, including patient experience, costs, the work-life of healthcare providers, and population health.
The Connection between Evidence-Based Practice and Quadruple Aim
Evidence-based practice and Quadruple Aim relate in different ways. First, both strive to ensure quality care is achieved (Sikka, Morath, & Leape, 2015). For example, EBP ensures quality care is achieved by ensuring nurses employ modern and sophisticated care delivery methods drawn from verified studies. In the same vein, Quadruple Aim guarantees quality care by ensuring enhanced patient experience and costs align with patients’ financial capability. It is also worth mentioning that both aspects are related because they can be used to optimize health system performance. The bottom line is that EBP and Quadruple Aim are important frameworks geared towards ensuring both patients and healthcare providers get the best in the care delivery process.
The Role of Evidence-Based Practice in Achieving the Quadruple Aim
Evidence-based practice is grounded on the idea of achieving the best results in a healthcare setting. This includes ensuring patients receive appropriate treatment while at the same time nurses are satisfied with their j...
