Lifestyle Education for Patients With Cardiovascular Complications

I love your idea to focus on cardiovascular health. You made a good point that the NP role is to educate on key concepts. However, is the cardiac patient already receiving this type of education? What would be unique about the education you are presenting?

Lifestyle Education for Patients with Cardiovascular complications
One of the issues that need change is cardiovascular health complications. Cardiovascular diseases are common health problems, and the main focus of addressing them is medication. Common cardiovascular diseases include hypertension, coronary artery disease, and heart attack. According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular diseases are the major causes of death in the US, leading to about one million heart attacks annually (Lim et al., 2021). Patients with cardiovascular complications focus more on taking and sometimes do not adhere to medication procedures. Most of them live unhealthy lifestyles and fail to adhere to healthcare requirements, exposing them to severe complications and death (Mentrup et al., 2020).
The issue is relevant because patients face more risks when they fail to exercise positive lifestyles. Almost every patient is at risk of complications based on their lifestyles. Some of the actions of the patients pose serious risks to the disease and hence can be addressed before escalation (Mentrup et al., 2020). The issue is patient-centered since most complications result from the patient's failure to adhere to medication and the right lifestyle. The patient and their families significantly reduce health challenges and promote a positive life even when sick.
The recommended change is patient education. One of the roles of the NP is to educate the patients on the strategies for avoiding health complications. The nurse practitioner should educate the cardiovascular disease patients and their families on medication adherence, lifestyle changes, and proper eating habits (Mentrup et al., 2020). They can inform them to reduce alcoholism, tobacco smoking, and sugary and fatty food since they predispose them to health challenges. NPs can educate patients about exercise, diet modification, and drug adherence when they visit the hospital. They can also go to the community and inform the general public about managing their health and reducing complications.
