I. I am a caregiver in a nursing home. I provide a range of healthcare services that contribute to the patient’s healing and recovery. I create and manage a healthcare plan for my patients based on the instructions given by their physicians. I check my patients’ vitals, including pulse rate, temperature, and blood pressure. I administer prescribed medications to my patients and keep a proper record. I help my patients to bathe and groom them daily. In addition, I check for bedsores, wounds, and infections. I dress the wounds and assess the healing progress. I answer patient calls from their family members and connect them. I also communicate with physicians to inform them about the health status of their patients.
II. I monitor my patients’ health statuses daily. I analyze their emotional or physical status, and if there are any deviations I report to the supervisor immediately. For example, I remember a time when a patient in the nursing home fell at night while going to the toilet and injured his knee. When the caregiver on the night shift tried to help him, the patient was angry and did not want assistance. The nurse called me, and I reported to work immediately. I empathized with the patient, and he agreed to help him. I analyzed the injury and tied his knee with a bandage. As such, I understand that it is only by connecting with patients emotionally that they accept to share relevant
