Sepsis is a life-threatening condition with a global mortality burden of almost 20% (World Health Organization, 2023). According to Jarczak et al. (2021), this syndrome causes severe organ system dysfunction due to impaired host-to-infection response, where the body attacks its tissues and organs. Falkner & Green (2022) reported that sepsis progression involves systemic inflammatory response (SIRS), sepsis, severe sepsis, and septic shock. The World Health Organization, [WHO] (2023) reported that while the causative agents are mainly bacteria, other infectious agents like viruses, parasites, and fungi may also be responsible. Anyone with an infection or severe injury may progress to sepsis, but the population at the highest risk includes the geriatric, pediatric, pregnant women, Intensive Care Unit patients, or those with suppressed immune systems (WHO. 2023). Signs and symptoms of sepsis include fever or low temperature, confusion, shortness of breath, extreme levels of body ache, rapid heartbeat, dangerously low blood pressure, and low urine output. The UK Sepsis Trust (2023) found that following sepsis patients may encounter physical, cognitive, and psychological effects which may continue after discharge from the hospital. Returning to work after sepsis may be challenging due to residual effects such as weakness, fatigue, tiredness, vision changes, and cognitive issues like depression, short-term memory loss, poor concentration, and mood swings. These persons require support and may require referral for further treatment to help them cope and realize positive outcomes.
Discussion Response on Sepsis
TThis discussion is informative since it explains sepsis and why it has been killing many people. For instance, this condition causes system dysfunction because of impaired host-to-infection response, where the individual's immune system attacks its organs and tissues. Moreover, you have explained why WHO has been so active in controlling
