Change Initiative: Creating Vision
Description of Organization
The Houston Methodist Hospital is a flagship hospital of Houston Methodist that was founded in 1919. It is located in Texas and boasts of being one of the best hospitals in the country. According to an article by the US News, the Houston Methodist Hospital is “ranked No.20 on the Best Hospitals Honor Roll.” The article continues to say that it is “nationally ranked in 9 adult specialties and rated high performing in 1 adult specialty and 9 procedures and conditions.” This hospital boasts of six centers of excellence that help to make sure patient experiences and outcomes are enhanced.
Aside from the centers of excellence, the hospital also boasts of having the Houston Methodist Research Institute. Here, researchers have the resources to advance any studies or investigations they are doing. Every hospital in the world needs a research section or institute that furthers the beliefs and studies staff members might have. A hospital should also be an area of growth, and through its research institute, Houston Methodist does help ensure growth as well as enhancement of research is guaranteed. The hospital also prides itself as an innovation center and currently boasts of several projects that help confirm that it is indeed an innovation center. Examples include virtual urgent care, chatbot (Mia), patient biometrics, opioid methodology, etc.
The Houston Methodist Hospital is guided by one mission which is “To provide high quality, cost-effective health care that delivers the best value to the people we serve in a spiritual environment of caring in association with internationally recognized teaching and research.” Aside from being guided by this mission, the Houston Methodist Hospital abides by several key values that continue to earn the hospital the highest praise in the country. These values include integrity, compassion, accountability, respect, and excellence. No organization can serve its purpose well without a set of values and these do help ensure the Houston Methodist Hospital serves its people and purpose. The stakeholders of the hospital include the many patients who frequent the hospital, physicians, nurses, other staff members, the local and federal regulatory bodies, the donors (Houston Methodist is a not-for-profit hospital), and the Texas community.
