Literature review
• Title Page
• Abstract – Provides an overview of the content; 150-250 words. Write last to
ensure critical elements of the literature review are incorporated.
• Table of Contents - See example for formatting expectations.
• Introduction (3 page minimum) – The introduction starts broad and becomes
more specific. Remember that you are essentially telling a cohesive story.
Describe the broad problem, discuss why the topic is important, and share the
aim or thesis of the review. Begins with full title centered on the first line, upper and lower case,
not bolded. No section heading of “introduction” is used. Notice in the example that page number
starts here.
• Body/Reivew of Literature – (6 page minimum) – The body too will likely start
broad and then becomes focused (narrow). It presents an analysis of major concepts, key
themes, points of agreement or disagreement among different articles, and gaps in knowledge.
Structure the body in a logical and coherent manner. Organization may be based on the themes
that emerge across articles such as arguments or findings. Use APA headings and subheadings
to help the reader understand the structure. Use APA in-text citations when paraphrasing or
quoting. Direct quotes should be used sparingly. Quote citations require the page number where
the quote is located in the cited source. The literature review should be in the past or present
perfect tense. Example of past tense: I read the book. Example of past perfect tense: I have read
the book.
• Discussion (3 page minimum) – Discuss the implications of the synthesized knowledge (answer
the SO WHAT question) and provide several suggestions for further research. What findings in
the literature are pertinent to your topic? What does the gap you identified in the literature mean?
How could more exploration be conducted?
• Conclusion (1 page minimum) – The conclusion starts specific and ends broad. It serves to
briefly demonstrate that the aim of the literature review has been achieved by highlighting key
points discussed in the review.
• References – A minimum of 8 relevant and credible references are required (the majority will be
from peer-reviewed journal articles). The reference page begins on a separate page from the
review. The word References is centered at the top and not bolded. Only include references that
have been cited in the literature review. Double-space the reference page, do not add extra
spacing. Use a hanging indent on the second and all subsequent lines of a reference. Arrange
alphabetically. Follow APA formatting for the given source type.
• Appendix – Contains tables or figures if any are referred to in the document.

Formative assessment naturally fits in inclusive teaching pedagogy. Indeed, it involves using teaching methods that allow teachers to monitor and evaluate students’ learning progress. In that case, when instructors identify problems that learners are facing or things that hinder effective learning, they modify their teaching methods to address those issues. The formative assessment facilitates proper learning for deaf students. In particular, it prioritizes the educational needs of students in special education, hence promoting their academic excellence. Formative assessment has also emerged as a good strategy for teaching complex subjects, such as mathematics. The method works the best in inclusive learning environments where there are proper teacher-student relationships.
