What it Means to be a USA Soldier
The United States of America (USA) has one of the strongest militaries worldwide. As such, being a USA soldier calls for one to be the best and hold all responsibilities that come based on an individual's position or rank. The primary branches of the USA military are marines, coast guard, army, navy, air force, and space force. Specifically, being a soldier means sacrificing many things, including relationships with family members, friends, the freedom of movement, doing business, and other privileges provided by the constitution for an ordinary citizen. The paper focuses on the army values, warrior ethos, and the sacrifices that a soldier makes.
An American soldier must have specific values that make the individual undertake assigned roles appropriately. The primary army values include honor, personal courage, loyalty, duty, integrity, selfless service, and respect (Association of the United States Army, 2021). For one to be respected, a person must honor others regardless of whether they are at the top or bottom ranks. Soldiers are trained how to respect themselves, their leaders, and civilians. In reality, the biggest part of the USA army training is discipline. A soldier must have courage and be loyal to his or her country. In other words, an individual should undertake all assignments, which is why they need to portray selfless service. A soldier is expected to go anywhere to serve his or her country without hesitation. Furthermore, one should depict integrity, which entails being honest and showing strong moral principles.
The army warrior ethos postulates, “I will always place the mission first, I will never accept defeat, I will never quit, and I will never leave a fallen comrade” (U.S. Army, 2011).
