A leading television journalist has invited you to comment on the relevance of intersectionality today. You are preparing for the interview with the help of a coach by anticipating the questions of the journalist. Please find below the script of the questions you must answer.

(Journalist) Good morning. Thank you for coming. So, what is intersectionality? Could you tell us more about Kimberlé Crenshaw and how she came to the idea of this concept?

Your answer 10 lines minimum.

(Journalist) Thank you for this clarification. So, is the term only used in relation to the oppression of black women?

Your answer 10 lines minimum

(Journalist) That is really interesting. I was just wondering if intersectionality is a completely new concept. Could you historically contextualize intersectionality for us?

Your answer 10 lines minimum

(Journalist) It seems that there has been a lot of controversy around the concept. Some commentators think that intersectionality is a ‘divisive’ ideology, that for example it divides feminism in a counterproductive way (e.g. ‘black feminism’ against ‘white feminism’). How do you answer to these critics of intersectionality?

Your answer 10 lines minimum

(Journalist) Thank you. Finally, can I ask you to summarize in a few words why we need intersectionality today?

Your answer 5 lines minimum

(Journalist) Thank you very much for you time.

(Journalist) Good morning. Thank you for coming. So, what is intersectionality? Could you tell us more about Kimberlé Crenshaw and how she came to the idea of this concept?
Intersectionality is also referred to as intersectional feminism. Intersectionality is a branch of feminism which describes different aspects of social and political identities and how they have cause discrimination to overlap in the country. For example the case of race with gender of the black women. The main aim of intersectionality is to distinguish between white women and black feminism by acknowledging that women have been endowed with different abilities and identities. This term was invented by Kimberke Williams Crenshaw in 1989 (Hancock, 2016). Intersectionality identifies different forms of discrimination and how they are related to one another.
Kimberle grew Up in Canton, Ohio when then time black people were being assassinated while they were trying to vote. United States was under the supremacy of the white people. Renshaw parents were referred to as race people because they refused the subordinate status of the white people. As Crenshaw proceeded to join the law school, she started being sensitive on contemporary issues around inequality (Hancock, 2016). Crenshaw had a firm foundation in political and economic dimensions of racial power. In 1989 she developed the term intersectionality and black feminism.
(Journalist) Thank you for this clarification. So, is the term only used in relation to the oppression of black women?
Yes. Intersectionality is a term that is used to show the oppression of the black women. Crenshaw states that black women have had a vast different experience compared to the white women due to their race and class. For example Crenshaw explores to types of male violence against women that is domestic violence and rape (Hancock, 2016). According to Crenshaw, the experience of black women cannot be understood in terms of being a women or being black. According to Kimberle being a black comes with a lot of disadvantages. Being also a black woman comes with a lot of disadvantages. Women make up 50% of the total...
