Cultural distance entails the differences in communication styles across the globe. The concept is, however, not confined to communication alone. It also involves the differences in politics, beliefs, values, societies, and economic perspectives (Ronen & Shenkar, 2013). Cultural distance is a meaningful concept to me because it assists in understanding varied relationships between business and people. The concept is also broad and covers numerous aspects of the business world.
Due to the existence of cultural distance, investors cannot appreciate or know the actual value of a firm. This is because they cannot understand the recruitment methods or salaries for specific organizations. After all, the investor is detached from the specific organization's culture (Stewart, 2006). Therefore, companies avoid investing in certain countries because of the uncertainties associated with cultural distance. In order to succeed, investors must appreciate the concept of cultural distance and pursue ways to address the uncertainties (Khan-Pyo et al., 2019).
