Nonetheless, the purpose of the study was to examine the development process and policy revision cycle used to develop the NFPA ARFF standards that relate to Aircraft Safety and Firefighting using a qualitative case study approach.
Discussion of Key Facts/Findings
The author presents numerous facts in support of the primary hypothesis. First and foremost, the study established the NFPA development process pertaining to NFPA standards and further revealed the transition of policies and especially TGCs and electronic submissions(Herron et al., 2016). Furthermore, it also established that TGC proposed new standards that had been adopted before the beginning of the revisionary ARFF 414 standard cycle. Another key finding was that the correct strategies for the advancement of NFPA in the public interest were necessary going forward. Moreover, the committee members concurred that the revisionary cycle process was authentic and hence did not require additional adjustments. Furthermore,the most recent adjustments where TGC and electronic adjustments used were important to the success of the entire process(Herron et al., 2016). The study achieved its core objectives of investigating the revisionary cycle process that underlie the NFPA and ARFF standards. However, the committee expressed concern over the need for a wider acceptance and implementation of the standards particularly in the fire and other emergency related industries, and to have a participative approach where the views of the general public would be incorporated within the enhancement of the revisionary cycle thereby improving the public safety(Herron et al., 2016). The study findings suggested that though it would be costly to establish NFPA codes, it however can be adopted by airports as a fire fighting guideline. The adoption of this code could help airports mitigate unforeseeable long term damages and losses. The standards lacked widespread usage largely due to lack of a uniform regulatory framework similar to the FAA which is mandated to regulate airworthiness.
Notwithstanding the lack of regulatory framework, the revisionary process still ongoing. The enhancement of these standards to provide an effective atmosphere for firefighting and rescue in the airports is therefore a critical aspect of airport safety. The committee findings further suggest that though organisations had the good will, they lacked the ability to enforce codification.
