I was fascinated to read chapter 1, “Quiet Soundings: The Grammar of Black Futurity,” in Listening to Images by Tina Campt. Although I knew that a person learns more things from pictures, this chapter has given me a new perspective to look at images. For example, I have learned that photos can help an individual to understand the struggles and perceptions of a specific demographic or sub-population.
