The concepts of mass incarceration, police brutality and Black Lives Matter are connected from the very beginning of American history. In more recent times, African Americans have been the victims of both mass incarceration and police brutality based on statistical evidence. This is believed to be an offshoot from the current social and political advancements towards racial equality, which then manifested into systemic racism among various individuals. Accordingly, Black Lives Matter emerged from some of the most well-known and current episodes of police brutality against African Americans. This includes the time when George Floyd, an unarmed black man, died as the police officer placed his knee on his neck of Floyd. Thus, as protesters worldwide demanded government action through Black Lives Matter, several policy changes were made to prevent another mass incarceration and police brutality against people in the minority.
